Duncan Whitaker, a fine art photographer, works primarily
with intimate landscapes and close-up images, including
floral studies. Through the use of shapes, textures, color
and light, his photographs isolate scenes or subjects of
particular visual interest and offer the viewer a different
way of seeing the familiar. Whitaker's photographs depict
the scene or subject as it was composed in the camera and
captured on film when the shutter was released without
alteration of the final image.
Whitaker has photographed throughout the United States
and most often photographs out of doors with natural light
and color transparency film. He has had solo exhibits in
Maryland, Washington, DC, and Maine and has
participated in major invitational photography shows. He is a member of the Waverly Street Gallery,
Bethesda, MD, where his work is regularly exhibited. His photographs are also on display at the Whitehall Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland.
Whitaker has been invited to exhibit fifteen photographs at the Evergreen Museum and Library of The Johns Hopkins University, 4545 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21210. The exhibit, entitled From Mexico to Maine, will open with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on June 29, 2010 and will continue through September 26, 2010. The Museum’s hours are Tuesday-Friday 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday-Sunday 12 noon to 4 pm. This show is the second in Evergreen’s ongoing series of exhibitions that focus on artists who have pursued artistic careers after retirement from other careers.
